Bench marking is undertaken against other tertiary providers offering similar programmes,and the Concordia comparative statistics of qualification completions show an average of 96.5 per cent over 2009 and 2010. This compares favourably with the 84 per cent average estimated by the Ministry of Education for international students studying at PTEs at diploma level from 2008. NZILD collects comprehensive, good quality information on learner achievement and uses this to make evidence-based changes to its NCAE&T course. Analysis of the time taken for trainees to complete assignments and thus the qualification could lead to further programme changes and even better learner achievement. Partners Ntec works in partnership with the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic in Tauranga and IPC Tertiary Institute in Palmerston North, to market their programmes overseas, and to provide an Auckland campus for some of their programmes. Bay of Plenty Polytechnic Study in Tauranga New Zealand www.boppoly.ac.nz The Bay of Plenty Polytechnic was established in 1982 and each year thousands of students take certificate, diploma and degree programmes in a range of areas. Ntec works in partnership with the Polythechnic for international marketing support and the provision of facilities in Auckland for the following programmes: IPC Tertiary Institute Study in Palmerston North New Zealand www.ipc.ac.nz IPC was established in Palmerston North in 1991, and offers the following programmes in Palmerston North and Auckland. Please refer to IPC for their other programmes. Ntec programmes has pathways to various higher qualifications in New Zealand and overseas Students who successfully complete a Diploma at Level 5, 6 or 7 at Ntec and meet the academic and English entry requirements for QUT programmes, are eligible to apply for advanced standing. Students having satisfactorily completed Level 5 of the Diploma in Business can progress to the 2nd year of Bachelor of AiB (Honours) 2 BA (Hons) Business Studies at the University of Northampton. Graduates of the Diploma in Business Management (Advanced) Level 6 can progress to the final year of the BA (Hons) Business and Management at the University. The pathways study programme provides credit towards Wintec’s Bachelor of Business Studies programme for students who have successfully completed the Concordia Institute of Business, Diploma in Business Management level 5 & 6. Graduates of the Diploma in Counselling and Family Therapy (Level 6) are considered as having achieved academic entry into the third year of the Bachelor of Counselling (Level 7) with the successful completion of two additional WelTec courses, a presentation, and the successful completion of an interview. Ntec graduates of the National Diploma in Hospitality gain advanced standing into the LCB Bachelor of Business degree in Hotel or Restaurant Management. Ntec graduates of the National Certificate in Hospitality (Cookery) gain advanced standing into the LCB Diploma Avance de Gestion Culinaire. This pathway arrangement is with the LCB campuses in Sidney and Adelaide, Australia. Students undertaking the National Certificate in Hospitality (Cookery) Level 4 have the option of gaining the City and Guilds Diploma in Food Preparation & Cookery 7065 (Culinary Arts) as an additional qualification. Ntec and Southern Institute of Technology have an agreement for cross crediting and recognition of prior learning whereby students who have completed the National Diploma in Computing level 5 and the Diploma in Computing Level 6 at Ntec may gain up to 210 credits towards the Bachelor of Information Technology at SIT. Students enrolled on the Diploma of Computing Level 7 have the option to gain a Professional Bachelor of Computer Technology from Asia e University subject to the University’s review and acceptance of the student’s qualifications prior to commencing the Diploma of Computing Level 7. Why Study in Auckland Auckland is New Zealand’s largest city. Around 1.5 million people live in the greater Auckland area, which represents about one third of the population of the whole country. Certificate of University Preparation for International Students Level 3 This programme prepares students for first-year entry to a range of degree courses at various universities and polytechnics in New Zealand and overseas. This is a transition programme, equivalent to year 13 in New Zealand, year 12 or matriculation in Australia, A levels in United Kingdom and Higher School Certificate level offered in some countries in academic contexts, effective oral communication, understanding workplace culture, employability skills, introduction to research, referencing and plagiarism, business environment and administration, computer skills – effective use of Word/ Excel/PowerPoint, mathematics and statistics, project management, presentation skills. Pathway The course provides a pathway to the Marie Jasmine - Indonesia Diploma in Business Level 7 The faculties in NTEC are very friendly and supportive. They encourage students to participate in class, and they know students by names. The tutors also will explain the materials till the students understand, and they have their spare times for the students who need extra times in understanding or guidelines for assignments. NTEC location is very strategic, in Auckland CBD area. In addition, there is a good mixture of international students in the class. Kazuya Yamada - Japan Diploma in Business Level 6 My tutors had rich management experiences in real business fields and their practical teachings were interesting and it stimulated me to learn. I also had many opportunities in my class to work with my classmates who have different nationalities and culture. Diploma in Business Management Level 5 This programme is aimed at candidates who wish to acquire knowledge and skills to commence and progress through a management career. Katya Encina Riveros - Chile Diploma in Business Level 5 I chose to study at Ntec NZ as I felt it was the best opportunity I had to obtain an internationally recognized qualification in a short period of time. I am very happy with my choice of study, Business in Hastings campus. My Tutors were very supportive and they’ve given me the knowledge and help I needed. I love NZ! If you receive medical treatment during your visit, you may be liable for the full costs of that treatment. Working and Living in New Zealand Currently there is strong demand in New Zealand for skilled labour. International students are a valuable source of skilled migrants approximately one quarter of international tertiary students go on to become New Zealand residents.Students may be permitted to work part-time while they are studying, and full-time on completion of study. Students may need to apply, and pay a fee, to Immigration New Zealand for a ‘Variation of Conditions’ to their Student Visa/ Permit to be eligible to work in New Zealand. Full-time students on Diploma courses can apply for a change in their permit conditions that allows them to work part-time. Students studying English Language (on courses lasting at least 6 months) can also apply, but must have an IELTS score of at least 5.0. Students are also given training and assistance in finding full-time jobs in New Zealand on completion of their course. You will have the choice to receive any remaining fees back or have them paid directly to an alternative Education Provider. ii. Withdrawal within the first 2 days of the programme: If the student withdraws from the programme within the first two days they will receive a 50% refund of all fees paid by them, and NTI, CIB, FutureCOL or NZILD will retain 50% of the funds paid. Computing and Business students who have already received their laptop (which is included in their resource fee), will not receive a full refund of their resource fee if they subsequently withdraw from their programme, and will be able to keep the laptop. 4. If a student is not granted a student visa or an extension of their student visa a full refund of their unused fees will be made. 5. Refunds will be processed within 30 days of withdrawal, will be paid in New Zealand dollars, and will go to the person or organisation that paid the fees, not necessarily the student. 6. An international student who obtains permanent residency, while studying on a student visa, will not receive a refund of fees for the remainder of the academic year in which residency is granted. However, they will be treated as a New Zealand permanent resident for the following years and will be subject to domestic fees for the remainder of their study at NTI, CIB, FutureCOL or NZILD. 7. If the student is expelled from the programme, it is unlikely that any refund will be made. 8. These regulations may be varied in exceptional circumstances that are beyond the control of the student (such as medical or compassionate circumstances). Variation is at the discretion of the Directors. 9. Immigration New Zealand will be informed of all information which affects the status of a student permit or visa. Student Withdrawals and Fee Refunds This fee refund policy is in accordance with the Education Act 1989 and amendments, and applies to international and domestic students. 1. If a student withdraws (i.e. stops attending class) from any NTI, CIB, FutureCOL or NZILD programme, they must notify the Directors in writing. The date of withdrawal is the date that NTI, CIB, FutureCOL or NZILD receives written notification of the withdrawal. Students are taught the New Zealand way of doing business as well as work culture and ethics. Environmental Initiative Ntec has undertaken to support initiatives in New Zealand to improve the environment. A team of students has been working for 4 hours each week on a reserve about 20 km from the college. The group has been involved in clearing weed trees from the area of native bush and then preparing the land for planting of native trees. In total during the last year, they worked for more than 400 hours. This commitment from Ntec and the students has been of immense benefit to this project. Students were presented with certificates by Graham Falla, member of the Friends of Mangemangeroa committee at the 2011 March Graduation Ceremony to acknowledge their contribution. Diabetes New Zealand Diabetes New Zealand is a national charity that represents people with diabetes. Ntec students have volunteered at Diabetes NZ Auckland located at Mount Eden, offering their services to help with administrative tasks, such as preparing flyers, letters and mailers. Our students have also been called upon to assist at the society’s events, helping to serve drinks and refreshments. Our students have found the engagements meaningful as they spend time on a worthy cause. Furthermore, through helping out at events, they are able to network and communicate with a wide and diverse range of people. Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation have helped over 1100 children to go to school – including street kids, children with disabilities, and trafficked children. Ntec is honoured to be working with Blue Dragon in offering full scholarships to their children for them to study at our colleges, imparting knowledge and skills that will enable them to build their own careers upon their return to Vietnam. Ntec level 6 graduates who have their graduate job search visas will be able to attend the New Kiwis Career Success course. Course Requirements You need to complete eight papers at second and third year undergraduate level that reflect the specialisations within the Bachelor of International Studies programme: International Business, International Relations, Environmental Studies, Ecotourism, or Language Studies. Entry Requirements Entry is available to students who would be able to undertake university-level study in New Zealand and who already hold an undergraduate degree. Postgraduate Diploma of International Studies (PDIS) Students who do not wish to enrol in the full Master’s programme can choose to enrol in the Postgraduate Diploma of International Studies. This qualification comprises the five double papers taken in the first year of the MIS programme and is completed over a minimum of three terms. The Postgraduate Diploma also promotes a common interdisciplinary approach to business, politics, environment and science in the context of sustainable management. The MIS, and to a lesser extent the PDIS, is suitable for any student interested in gaining a postgraduate qualification that can lead to a career related to the following fields: • • • • • • • Globalisation Trade International relations Journalism Conflict resolution Politics Business management Master in International Studies (MIS) The MIS has been created for: • Students wanting to specialise in environmental management, international business, politics, planning, development studies, and resource management; and tudents interested in gaining a postgraduate qualification that can lead to careers related to international trade, globilisation, international relations, business management, politics and conflict resolution. • The first year of the MIS programme consists of five double papers. The first four papers focus upon developing the student’s ability to critically assess the outlook, contribution and limitations of business, politics, environment and science in the context of sustainable management. The MIS programme emphasises how despite the presence of different views and approaches across disciplines, overall synthesis can be achieved through the development and exploration of linkages between each field of study. In the second year, students undertake original academic research. This research is consistent with IPC’s emphasis on the practical application of knowledge gained, and is of interest to potential employers.
