Worked in the ‘process engineering’ group which maintained and improved the machines that made window fashions (coverings; shades). My responsibility involved: designing, detailing, expediting, assembling and testing new designs and improvements. Some completed projects: 3 line tape applicating machine: the by hand application required 6 minutes per vane. With the new tape applicator, that time was reduced to 1.5 minutes per vane. 300% faster. improved support roller assembly for a slitter machine: Required replacement cycle time was every 8 weeks. Improved design went 7 months before needing replacement. Lasted 3.5 times longer. improved motor/gear box arrangement for hot oil roller drive: old design required 2 men working 4 hours to change drive motor. Improved design took 1 man just under 1 hour. Savings of 7 man hours. pneumatic driven steel rule die station (1st generation): would not consistently cut through poly vane. pneumatic driven shear punch station (2nd generation): consistently cut required profile with no hanging pieces. EnconUnited manufactures pre-stressed pre-cast concrete components used in the construction industry. I worked in the Denver engineering office maintaining the drawing data base for a large 14,000 seat auditorium at Brigham Young University in Rexburg, ID. I coordinated drawing data base corrections and as-builts between Salt Lake City manufacturing plant and onsite EnconUnited erection engineer in Idaho. Sundyne, Corp. Worked in the plastic lined AnsiMAG Drive pump division and the Canned Motor Pump division. Collaborated in the design of two new product improvements, from concept through market launch. In the AnsiMAG product line we invented a 2 piece mag drive impeller which comes apart; where the mag drive component separated from the enclosed housing impeller component. This was a tremendous cost savings for the customer. As lead mechanical designer, I: created all conceptual layouts. Conducted design reviews with manufacturing and engineering. Detailed all components. Worked closely with mold maker as design evolved. In Canned Motor Pump (CMP) division, I initiated 3D modeling with Unigraphics. We designed a CMP capable of 5000 psi at 5000 F, the largest ever built by Sundyne.
