COLPAVE™ Elastomer Modified Microsurfacing Emulsion Product Data Sheet 2012/08     DESCRIPTION COLPAVE™ is a specially formulated medium set cationic microsurfacing bitumen emulsion modified with SBR latex for mixing with selected continuously graded crushed aggregate, cement and water. USES COLPAVE™ emulsion is specially formulated for mixing in a concrete mixer and applying by hand. These mixes are suitable for resealing parking areas, sidewalks and intersections. Can also be used for manufacturing cold pothole patching mixes and as a tack coat for geotextiles. PROPERTIES COLPAVE™ emulsion has an extended mixing time of approximately four minutes, allowing the preparation of small sized mixes that can be placed before the mix sets. The SBR latex in the COLPAVE™ improves the temperature susceptibility of the binder as well as the binder/aggregate adhesion, which reduces the risk of aggregate loss, especially during the early life of the seal. SPECIFICATIONS COLPAVE ™ emulsion is manufactured from a 70/100 penatration grade bitumen and conforms to the AC-E1 specification for Polymer Modified Emulsions: REQUIREMENT EMULSION PROPERTIES Max 63 65 710 µm - 0.1 150 µm - 0.5 Binder content, % m/m Residue on sieving, g/100 ml TEST METHOD Min Particle charge Positive Sedimentation after 60 rotations MB-22 MB-23 MB-24 Nil SANS 309 RECOVERED BINDER PROPERTIES Softening point, ºC ≥ 48 - MB-17 Elastic recovery @ 15ºC ≥ 50 - MB-4 DIRECTIONS FOR USE 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Localised cracks must be sealed and fatigue cracks repaired prior to placing of microsurfacing prepared with COLPAVE™. Microsurfacing will not prevent cracks from reappearing. No tack coat is needed and neither is pneumatic rolling required. The mix is easily applied with rubber squeegees and textured with a damp hessian drag before it sets. 3 The typical emulsion content is 200 litres of COLPAVE™ per m of aggregate for crusher dust that conforms to the requirements of the Colto (Fine slurry) Medium grading specification. Microsurfacing prepared with COLPAVE™ is designed to be opened to traffic within 90 minutes of placing during normal weather conditions with ambient temperatures not exceeding 35°C, providing that the reactivity of the aggregate is favourable. Suitability of the crusher dust must be determined by a Colas laboratory.   Head Office Cape Town PO Box 82 Eppindust 7475 Tel +27 (0)21 531 6406 Fax +27 (0)21 531 5514 Email [email protected] Website www.colas.co.za Colas provides the above data sheet in good faith and it is provided without warranty, representation, inducement or licence of any kind; as such Colas shall not be liable for cost, damages or losses incurred as a result of reliance on the abovementioned information.
