Los Angeles Solar Energy Plan

LA’S SUPPLY & DEMAND FOR ELECTRICITY Peak electricity demand in Los Angeles is 6,165 megawatts (MW). On a typical summer day, demand is about 5,100 MW at the daily peak. The level of demand – or the “load” – changes depending on the time of day and time of year. For instance, during the summer, electricity demand reaches “peak load” between the hours of 12 noon and 6 pm, because of increased air conditioning, lighting, commercial, residential, and industrial electricity usage. The figure below shows the hourly electricity demand profile for a summer day within LADWP territory.
