Offcers from Ellesmere Port Neighbourhood Policing Unit made the discovery as part of an investigation following the stop check of a car on Hinderton Road, Neston by local offcers on 22nd January. Offcers discovered a quantity of what is believed to be Class A drugs in the car and the driver, a 28-year-old local man, was arrested. Offcers subsequently conducted searches of two addresses on Cookes Close in Neston. Cannabis farm was discovered at both premises, totalling 108 plants in total.The plants were seized and the equipment used to grow them was dismantled by offcers and removed for forensic examinations. Following interview by Police, the man was granted police bail. A 52-year-old woman and a 33-year-old woman from Neston were also arrested as part of the investigation on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis and abstracting electricity. All three will answer police bail on 2nd April. NESTON High School had something extra to celebrate this year when their French Exchange partners arrived for their annual visit. This year marks the 20th anniversary of this popular exchange programme with College Louis Pasteur, Graulhet, France. At its recent meeting the council met to discuss its budget requirements for the fnancial year 2012/13. The Mayor Cllr Barker said “Although the Council has new plans and ambitions for next year it resolved to maintain the same precept request from CWaC as last year which is £197,764, this will be quite challenging but achievable ” Over the last year the Council changed some of the roles of the Committees and formed a new Committee, the Assets and Town Centre Services Committee. There will be a new Town Centre Manager, a committee will look at tourism and economic development and funds are being found for the purchase of additional bins around Neston. A ‘Greening’ plan in under headway and residents can look forward to seeing some foral arrangements under the ‘Welcome to Neston’ gateway signs. The Council is embarking upon a formation of a Neighbourhood Plan and have applied for a ‘Front Runner’ bid of £20k to assist. The Council have not yet agreed what the plan will entail; it is envisaged that the adoption of this plan will take some time. Riverside Marsh is receiving the Town Council’s attention and we will soon be starting works on some drainage improvements and the creation of a new pond; these will assist as they have in Parkgate, in combating the mosquito menace. in Parkgate too, there are plans for a least one viewing platform; this is currently under consideration, further consultations and plans will be made. The Society and Culture Committee are planning to get a grip of the Christmas decorations and lights for 2012, and talks are scheduled for next month. A budget has been set aside for events too. The Council’s budget for grants has been held at £40k – applications are welcomed from not-for-proft groups and organisations in the area who have ideas for schemes that will beneft the community. They got in through the sports hall’s rear doors and attacked the reception area, damaging vending machines, furniture and walls in an unsuccessful bid to reach the safe, which holds merely petty cash overnight. Councillor Stuart Parker, Executive Member for Culture and Recreation, said: “I would like to thank Brio Leisure staff from the centre for their fantastic efforts to ensure that services and their users were not unduly affected by this despicable and destructive attack on the centre. “We would like to send out a clear message that very little amounts of cash are left on the site overnight, making this kind of burglary absolutely pointless. “A large proportion of all our leisure centre customers pay by direct debit for regular activity, meaning cash handling is kept to a minimum across Brio Leisure sites.” Cheshire Police are investigating the burglary, which is believed to have taken place between 10.30pm on Tuesday 14th February and the following morning and have stepped up patrols in the area. This is the second time Neston Recreation Centre has been attacked.
