This document is designed to help you:  Communicate on social networking platforms as a Cisco employee, contractor or vendor  Engage appropriately with audiences online  Be most effective in this up-close-and-personal, ever-changing environment Note: If you have any questions, please contact [email protected] for guidance. This document is available for external use; however, some of the links included are for internal use only and can only be accessed through the Cisco® Intranet. Overview You should use this document in conjunction with the Cisco Code of Business Conduct (the “COBC”), the policies within Policy Central, the Cisco Information Security Policies and Standards and Cisco’s Employee Resource Handbook, Cisco Connections. All of these resources are updated periodically, and you are responsible for understanding company policies, including updates. The COBC stresses Cisco’s values of open communication, empowerment, inclusion, integrity and trust. These same values are applicable when using social media. Cisco empowers employees to use social media to conduct company business as well as to facilitate collaboration and innovation. Employees must adhere to the policies in this document and refer to the Appendix: Social Media Best Practices and Q&A when using social media. It is very important to avoid misusing intellectual property or disclosing any confidential or restricted information (see “I Protect What is Ours”). Remember, the rules for proper behaviors outside the internet also apply inside the “online” world. If you are unsure of whether to post, comment or respond on social sites, submit a question in the Global Social Media Community discussion forum or to [email protected]. Scope Some policy statements included in this document may be implemented differently depending on regional, local, and geographic differences. Please consult the terms and conditions of use of your local social networking sites and talk to your local Cisco legal counsel if you have any questions. All information contained within this document is subject to any applicable country, state and/or local laws. This policy will not be interpreted or enforced in any way that would interfere with an employee’s rights under the National Labor Relations Act. When you are participating on social networking sites using your personal social media accounts, be transparent that your thoughts are your own if discussing official Cisco business. Use your real identity—no aliases—and disclose your affiliation with Cisco. If you believe your posting might lead to any confusion with viewers about whether you are speaking on behalf of Cisco, you should clearly and specifically state as follows: Twitter disclaimer: “These tweets are my own, not Cisco’s.” Disclaimer for blogs sponsored by Cisco: “Some of the individuals posting to this site, including the moderators, work for Cisco. Opinions expressed here and in any corresponding comments are the personal opinions of the original authors, not those of Cisco.” Third-party blog disclaimer: “The opinions expressed in this blog are my own views and not those of Cisco.” 2. Do not commit Cisco to any action unless you have the authority to do so. 3. Do not post any business-related confidential or internal-use–only information (marked “For Internal Use Only”) that you obtain or learn about as part of your job duties with Cisco . Such information includes the following examples: information regarding the development of systems, products, processes and technology; personally identifiable information (such as telephone numbers, Social Security numbers, credit and debit card numbers or financial account numbers) of the company’s employees, customers, vendors, or competitors; nonpublic financial information; marketing strategies; inventions not yet patented; or other business-related confidential or proprietary information. Contact [email protected] with any questions. 4. Respect all copyright and intellectual property laws including those protecting music, videos, text and photographs belonging to Cisco or third parties. Contact [email protected] with any questions. 5. Respect financial disclosure laws. Be very careful when making statements about Cisco’s financial performance, and do not make statements that in any way could violate federal or state securities laws such as the disclosure of material, nonpublic information. For example, it is illegal to communicate or give a “tip” on inside information to others so that they may buy or sell stocks or securities. Refer any questions to a Cisco Investor Relations representative. 6. If you are representing yourself as a Cisco employee on social networking sites like LinkedIn, you may not provide professional references for any current or former Cisco employee, contactor, vendor, or contingent worker on Cisco’s behalf. However, you may provide a personal reference or recommendation for current or former Cisco employees, contractors, vendors, and contingent workers provided a) the statements made and information provided in the reference are factually accurate; and b) you include the following disclaimer: “This reference is being made by me in a personal capacity. It is not intended and should not be construed as a reference from Cisco Systems, Inc. or any of its affiliated entities.” 7. Respect privacy; never ask for personal social networking passwords. Although making a “friend” request to colleagues is permitted, a request to obtain their passwords is not. To ensure that the privacy of your personal blogs and social networking sites is preserved, do not ask employees, colleagues, or Cisco job applicants for their personal login passwords. Do not post anything that is maliciously false, abusive, threatening or defamatory. You should not post content that is defamatory, discriminatory, harassing, or in violation of Cisco’s policies against discrimination, harassment, or hostility on account of age, race, religion, sex, ethnicity, nationality, disability, or other protected class, status, or characteristic. You should not unlawfully disparage Cisco products or services, or the products or services of our vendors or competitors. Examples of such conduct include offensive posts meant to intentionally harm someone’s reputation and posts that could contribute to a hostile work environment on the basis of age, race, religion, sex, ethnicity, nationality, disability or other protected class, status or characteristic. 9. Do not engage with the news media or industry analysts (for example, Wall Street Journal, InformationWeek, Gartner, and Forrester) to discuss official Cisco strategy and/or business on Cisco’s behalf without Public Relations (PR) and Analyst Relations (AR) consultation and approval. To ensure that Cisco communicates with the media in a consistent, timely, and professional manner about matters related to the company, consult your manager and your PR representative or AR representative before responding. 10. If you see something online that alleges potentially unlawful or unethical conduct (for example, illegal, unsafe or unethical conduct by a Cisco employee, contractor or vendor), please immediately escalate this event to the [email protected] alias. Representatives from Legal, PR, Social Media, and HR monitor this alias. If you are uncomfortable reaching out to the [email protected] alias, you can contact the Ethics Resource Center, which is confidential and anonymous and is the best resource to resolve problems such as the following:  Theft, fraud or any other dishonest conduct  Discrimination or harassment  Waste or abuse of Cisco resources  Conflicts of interest    Unsafe situations Mismanagement Any actions that violate the COBC Policy Compliance 1.0 Compliance Measurement Compliance with Cisco policies is required. Definitions Table 1 lists some of the terms and definitions used in this document. The definitions are from Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia. Term Social media Definition Social media refers to interaction among people in which they create, share and/or exchange information and ideas in virtual communities and [1] networks. Furthermore, social media depends on mobile and web-based technologies to create highly interactive platforms through which individuals and communities share, co-create, discuss, and modify user-generated content. They introduce substantial and pervasive changes to communication between organizations, communities and individuals. A social network is a social structure made up of a set of social actors (such as individuals or organizations) and a set of the dyadic ties between these actors.
