Best Sightseeing Los Angeles Tours Grauman's Chinese Theatre Grauman's Chinese Theatre | Photo by Los Angeles Marathon After passing through Echo Park and Silver Lake, runners will then head west on Hollywood Blvd. Thousands of people lined the famous street for the grand opening of Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood on May 18, 1927. The film being premiered that night was Cecil B. DeMille's The King of Kings, which was preceded by a live prologue devised by owner Sid Grauman. The theatre opened to the public the following day, May 19th. Besides its Chinese design, Grauman’s most distinct feature is the famous Forecourt to the Stars, with nearly 200 celebrity handprints, footprints, and autographs immortalized in the concrete. From Marilyn Monroe to Tom Hanks, Betty Grable’s legs to Jimmy Durante’s nose, Sid Grauman helped Hollywood leave its impression on not only Los Angeles, but the world. Los Angeles city tour Chateau Marmont Chateau Marmont | Photo by Los Angeles Marathon A couple of miles after Hollywood is the iconic Sunset Strip. Built in 1927 and modeled after a royal residence in France's Loire Valley, the Chateau Marmont provides a secluded hideaway for its famous (and infamous) clientele. The hotel’s sixty-three rooms, cottages and bungalows offer all the comforts of home, accompanied by panoramic views of the city from its perch above Sunset Blvd. Generations of artists, musicians, photographers, novelists and screenwriters have found inspiration at the Chateau, including Tim Burton, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Annie Leibovitz, Dorothy Parker, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Hunter S. Thompson and Bruce Weber. Los Angeles tours Rodeo Drive Rodeo Drive | Photo by Los Angeles Marathon From West Hollywood, the Marathon course enters Beverly Hills and Rodeo Drive, the famed shopping street known as the epicenter of luxury and fashion. Visitors from around the world stroll the three-block stretch of Rodeo Drive to experience over 100 exclusive boutiques, restaurants and hotels. As runners leave Beverly Hills and head towards historic Route 66, they will be greeted by hundreds of local cheerleaders making noise, encouraging them to get to the finish line. Cheer Alley is the Pep-Rally of the year, and is comprised of Middle and High School cheerleaders from Southern California. The Honda LA Marathon will also host a cheer competition for Cheer Alley participants, with a top prize of $1,250 going to the winning squad.
