Law Job Star Los Angeles Lawyer Gary M. Paul Gary M. Paul is finding himself quite busy these days. Recently, Paul was announced as President-elect of the American Association for Justice Organization. Paul, a partner with the Los Angeles-based Waters & Kraus, will take office July, 2011. He is this week’s Law Star spotlight. Keep reading to learn more about this well respected - and rather busy - lawyer. Touted as a longtime champion of victims’ rights, Gary M. Paul recently became the President-elect for the American Association of Justice. A member of the organization since 1981, he has made significant strides within the organization, his community and has more than one hundred jury trials to his credit. The mission of the organization is to seek justice for victims of misconduct or negligence, something Paul takes great pride in. Acknowledging the many challenges, Paul is quoted as having said, ‘’Change is difficult. As the American abolitionist and statesman Frederick Douglass once said, ‘’If there is no struggle, there is no progress’’. A partner with Waters & Kraus’ Los Angeles office, he contributes his three decades-long experience to the many complexities involved in civil matters, including consumer and medical product liability. Taking his responsibilities seriously, this award winning attorney is also a famed author, as well. Responsible for many articles and opinions published throughout the legal community, no one can say he is not one of the hardest working legal minds in the country, which, to those who know him best, makes him the ideal candidate for his new challenge with the American Association of Justice. The Springfield, Ohio native received his M.S.E. at UCLA and received his J.D. in 1974 from the Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, California. Among his many professional associations, he is a member of the California Sate Bar, the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles, the American Board of Trial Advocates and of course, the American Association of Justice. His many awards include the honor of receiving the Marvin Lewis Award in 2008, inclusion in the Southern California Super Lawyers list, published in Law & Politics Magazine, every year since 2005. He was added to the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles in both 1981 and 2005 and is a member of the renowned St. Thomas More Law Honor Society. His time spent in a courtroom is quite impressive, as well. He is responsible for a $12 million dollar verdict for an asbestos exposure case for a U.S. Navy Machinist’s mate, who served a single term in the military in the 1960s. The 66 year old truck driver, who is retired and sadly, also suffering from malignant pleural mesothelioma, was exposed aboard the USS Kitty Hawk between the years 1962 and 1966. The verdict came down in May, 2009 and remains one of Paul’s proudest wins. He continues to focus much of his time on asbestos cases, but does not limit himself or his skills to just this sector. For now, Paul is reveling in the announcement of his becoming the president of AAJ and continuing his good works in the community he works and lives. One thing is for sure, the legal sector will be hearing more from Gary M. Paul for many years to come. For more information on Waters & Kraus, visit their site at WatersKraus.com.
