State your 2 3 4 name for the record. MS. MERONI: My name is Sharon Ann Meroni. You're here because you have filed THE COURT: a petition? MS. MERONI: 5 6 Yes, Your Honor. I filed a 7 8 petition to appear before the sitting grand jury. THE COURT: MS. MERONI: For what reason, ma'am? To present evidence of massive 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 voter fraud in McHenry County. THE COURT: MS. MERONI: Occurring when and how? Occurring on -- the first place was in the general -- was in the primary election in February of 2008 and the second event was November 4th, 2008, but I believe that the issue involved also encompasses all elections in the State of Illinois that involve individuals asserting that they're to be in office. THE COURT: Is the State seeking to file any 20 21 22 23 24 response to this petition? MR. BORA: The People. Your Honor, Jeff Bora on behalf of We would be asking the Court for time if the Court would like to hear from the State on this matter to respond to the petition. Although 3 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 we are not a named party at this time we do believe that we probably have standing in this issue to give the Court a response as the State's Attorney's office is charged with preventing the county in its expenditure of funds and this may fall into that category. However, just based upon our initial review of the motion we could not find a basis in law for the motion nor could we find any specifically stated facts that would allow this Court to redress any issues that the Petitioners may seek. So if the Court would like to hear from 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 the State we would be seeking time to respond. THE COURT: How much time would you need? Thirty days, Your Honor. MERONI: please? 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 May I ask -- may I respond to him, I understand under The Jury Protection Act that actually we have five days up to seven days to respond. That refers specifically to Defendants but at least it does provide the fact that we do have the right to ask to go before a jury or to 4 1 2 3 4 5 6 speak to a jury. So is there any reason to prevent me -- this is a sitting grand jury and it's in motion right now -THE COURT: There is a grand jury si tti ng in this county each and every week all year long. MS. MERONI: I know. Isn't that wonderful? 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 And I would like to just have since this is an emergency and I think thirty days is a long time. THE COURT: Ma' am, somethi ng that happened in The Court February of '08 is not an emergency. will grant the State thirty days to file a response to your motion.
