For Immediate Release September 2, 2010 Contact: Daphne Larkin [email protected] NEWS RELEASE Norwich Named as a Top Military Friendly School for 2011 NORTHFIELD, VT. –In August, G.I. Jobs announced the release of its 2011 list of Military Friendly Schools honoring the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools which are doing the most to embrace America’s veterans as students. Norwich was named as one of America’s top schools for 2011. The list of Military Friendly Schools assists veterans and active duty service people with educational institution decision-making and supports them to find colleges and universities that suit their goals and needs. “We are very pleased to continue to serve the military community and happy that they appreciate the educational value of Norwich University” said William Clements, PhD, Associate Vice-President for Academic Affairs and the Dean of the School of Graduate and Continuing Studies. Norwich is concerned about our veterans and active duty and offers additional benefits such as military tuition assistance, credit for service from the Command and General Staff College, Title IV Federal Aid Programs and more. The Military Friendly Schools list was compiled through research where G.I. Jobs polled more than 7,000 schools nationwide. Methodology, criteria and weighting for the list were developed with the assistance of an Academic Advisory Board (AAB) consisting of educators from Carnegie Mellon University, Duquesne University, Colorado State University, Dallas County Community College, Old Dominion University, Cleveland State University, Lincoln Technical Institute and Embry Riddle; as well as Keith Wilson, VA’s director of education services; Michele Spires, American Council on Education’s assistant director of military programs; Janet Swandol, associate director for College Level Examination Program (CLEP) and Derek Blumke, president of Student Veterans of America. The criteria for being appointed to the Military Friendly Schools list included efforts to recruit and retain military and veteran students, results in recruiting military and veteran students and academic accreditations.  Norwich University’s School of Graduate and Continuing Studies (SGCS) builds upon the institution’s almost 200 year academic heritage with innovative online master’s degrees in a variety of areas. SGCS also offers a certificate in teaching and learning and a bachelor’s completion program. The programs are recognized throughout the industry for their rigor, small class size, high student satisfaction and retention. http://graduate.norwich.edu/ OFFICE OF COMMUNICATIONS 158 Harmon Drive, Northfield, VT. 05663 T. 802.485.2080 F.802.485.2340
